Telecom Industry revenue growth in 2007-2008
After hearing the news it is truth that Indian telecom is world’s fastest growing telecom. Department of Telecom (DoT) has said in its annual report for 2007-2008, “Production in telecom equipment has increased from Rs 17,833 crore in 2005-2006 to RS 23,656 crore in 2006-07 and the projected figure for the year 2007-08 is RS 26,253 crore. Rising demand for a wide range of telecom equipment, particularly in the area of mobile telecommunications, has provided excellent opportunities to domestic and foreign investors in the manufacturing sector. The last three years have seen many telecom companies setting up manufacturing units in different parts of India.” The news has been reported by ET.Further has been said by economics times, “At the current growth rate, the Indian telecom equipment manufacturing sector is set to become one of the largest globally by 2010. It is great news on growth of telecom industry in India.
On the other hand by the TRAI (telecom regulatory authority of India) a hit has been punched on service provider. That was a fine up to Rs 20,000 for allowing unsolicited commercial calls from telemarketers if you are getting calls after Do-Not-Calls registration.
This is good news for users but it can be as well as good for telemarketers? And the question is also that after this it will be grown up like 2007-2008 growth. It is really like that telecom industry is in boom or collapse?

Telecom Industry - boom or collapse
Some days before there was a news to banning research in Motion’s BlackBerry services but now on Friday economic times has announced, “India is not considering banning Research In Motion’s BlackBerry services at this point of time, the top official in the telecom ministry said on Friday.” It was coverage and headlines as recent news in the section of telecom.About the services of BlacBerry Satchit Gayakwad the company’s spokesman for India said, “BlackBerry services were offered in India by four providers, Vodafone, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, and BPL Mobile. BlackBerry had 12 million customers worldwide in December.” Further Business Standard had explained that it had an estimated 400,000 subscribers in India.
Other hand there is something different. Today in all news papers there was a head lines about value-added service charges which was charged by Vodafone-Essar to its subscribers without seeking their approval. This was big news and TRAI also had said a statement, “The authority had received complaints from the subscribers of Vodafone-Essar Mobile Services Ltd regarding provision of value-added services without consent.” For the mistake by the company there was an excuse, “technical error.” It was a big issue otherwise subscribers know how they are charged by these networks providers.
In this context there was others news by ET, “Korean electronics giant Samsung is luring major distributors of world’s largest cell phone player Nokia to switch side in its bid to double the market share to over 15 per cent in India this year.” It shows market war in telecom industry. Samsung are calling to Nokia distributors for selling their mobiles.
In the world what is the situation of telecom industry describe BBC, “The decay of the once-proud telecoms sector has continued on Monday with bad news and allegations of corporate misdeeds on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Further says, “The bad news helped trigger falls in London as well, as Vodafone slipped 2.8% to 87.5p, its worst level since January 1998.”
What shows it? The graph reveal one hand its boom and other hand market war, decay of this industry, value-added charge without approval etc. Can we say that telecom industry is in boom?
